Breathe Out

Yes, I'm still very much alive, enjoying the long summer days. Aren't you?

I started blogging at the onset of winter, kick-starting my motivation to be out and about.  Now I want to be outside at any chance.

So with that, I've learned of an outdoor activity normally reserved for indoors: salutation nation, lululemon's attempt to get your asana outside and promote fitness, friendship and fun (and free!) with an hour of yoga on Saturday August 7th at locations all over the country. So happy to see Pittsburgh on the list (Tunnel Park, Southside Works)! I assume that is in part to our new lululemon showroom on Walnut Street, which is a welcome addition to the community.

Reality? Sartoriality.

Alright, Pittsburgh. Time to take your lumps. You've been on my nerves lately. I really don't appreciate your tactic to increasing my property assessment. Please find another way to fund your ailing pension crisis. (Hint: parking leasing isn't going to do it, either.) And seriously. I live 6 miles from downtown, however thanks to the closed busway, which delayed the bus and increased traffic, my door-to-door commute was close to 90 minutes yesterday. Really?

So today I'm mentally escaping to a sartorial jaunt in Europe (Milan and Paris, to be exact.) I only wish I could hop on this yellow bike and commute everyday. I'm certain it would be faster these days!

I am salivating over this bag. Puddle in front of the iMac. And the shoes are hot, too.

Could this quite possibly be the most elegant, carefree summer look? The gladiators and thick belt, with another gorgeous buttery leather bag.

We're attending the gallery crawl and Cosmopolitan Pittsburgh this Friday, so I hope for the week to end much better than it started. Anything with young interesting people and cocktails looks to be promising. There needs to be a few more of these on the calendar.

Action Plan

Please forgive me for being missing in action! I've been out of the 'burgh, and therefore completely out of the action. This is my first weekend in weeks that I am searching for fun around here, so here goes:

Summertime Gargoyle Night at the Phipps
From now until September 10th, the Phipps will be hosting Gargoyle Night on Friday evenings from 5-9pm. Included in $20 admission are light bites and a docent-led tour through the exhibit of gothic statues juxtaposed in exotic blooms, complete with a little history about some of the gargoyles on local architectural landmarks.

Penhollows Summer Sale
Many of my favorite things in one of my favorite Shadyside stores are specially priced at up to 50% off. Select special orders are 25% off, all until July 31.

2010 US Women's Open
Catch the end of the 65th annual women's golf championship and the trophy presentation at the gorgeous Oakmont Country Club.

Summer Staple

Seedless watermelon is aplenty right now. (I loved watermelon as a child, but hated spitting out the seeds. Thank you watermelon farmers for making this fruit genetically perfect!) I always thought it was mostly made of water, but who knew it was this healthy for you!?

Looking for a more grown-up recipe for this mouth-watering summer staple, I've made Barefoot Contessa's watermelon and feta salad with arugula. It has become my go-to side dish for entertaining. The light sweetness of the melon complements the strong salty feta. Make sure not to leave out the mint! And be sure the diced melon is chilled before mixing together. The dressing, a vinaigrette with lemon and orange juice, honey, shallots and olive oil, is so deliciously refreshing.

Perfect for a July 4th celebration!
